Welcome to our haven in the Land of Waterfalls – Western North Carolina’s Transylvania County. Located near the top of a mountain down a secluded gravel drive, “Meadowside” is a special gathering place for family and friends. Five forests are located within a 30 mile radius and the quaint town of Brevard is a mere 15 minutes away.

Nestled in trees beside 3 rolling meadows at nearly 3000 feet elevation, “Meadowside” is a perfect getaway – a place to rejuvenate, nourish, relax, and renew your spirit. Wake to birds singing in the cool mountain morning breeze that wisps thru the tall pines surrounding the house, use the day to wander the 16 acres or enjoy one of the near-by activities, then relax on the “pickin’ porch” watching lightening bugs rise over the meadow grass and possibly catching a glimpse of a deer or two in the pasture. Later, once the sun sets and the moon is high overhead, enjoy “s’mores” by the roaring bonfire.

Built in 1979 with a love and respect for the North Carolina mountain environment of big pines, rhododendrons, and mountain laurel, “Meadowside” is a haven for enjoying nature at its best as the builder and previous owner intended. There’s a rare need for using the air conditioning due to the passive solar system that keeps the house at a pleasant temperature with fresh cross breezes enhanced by ceiling fans in almost every room.

This non-smoking, 4 bedroom, 2 bath home, sleeps 8-10 comfortably and has a magnificent stone fireplace in the two- story cathedral ceiling great room which opens into the dining area and fully equipped kitchen. The rooms have oriental rugs covering hardwood floors and beautiful antiques interspersed with country furniture – relaxed and comfortable, yet upscale. “Meadowside” has all the modern conveniences of the 21st century. We are dog-friendly - provided they are house trained and pre-treated for fleas and ticks - with even a dog door to a fenced-in area. Linens and cleaning fees are included in the rental rate; there is an extra fee for dogs. Just bring your personal items and food.

“Meadowside” is bordered by several members of the owners’ family who have decided to make their homes here permanently. The land has been in the family for 6 generations and this specific area was once an apple orchard. There are a few apple trees left that still produce but for the most part the orchard has become the place for big family gatherings with cookouts and football, baseball and badminton tournaments.

Drop a child off at one of the local camps and take the rest of the family on their own mountain vacation; bring the extended family together for a reunion; have a wedding; gather your friends for a week of relaxation, biking, fishing, hiking, golf, away time from the children – however you do it, make “Meadowside” and Brevard, North Carolina your getaway from the everyday grind.
